Abstract

BBR-Brazilian Business Review reaches the end of its second year confirming its position as a forum for publication of solid research conducted to the highest methodological rigor. In this issue, we have an analysis by Ronald Edwards of the economic disparities presented by China, which is very relevant given China’s place in the world economy and as a trading partner of Brazil. Márcia Matias, César Tiburcio and Leonardo Vieira discusses the ability of projecting revenues from sale of copper using econometric techniques, showing there is a need to use more rigorous quantitative techniques in managing companies and deciding on investments. Gilberto Martins presents a discerning look at the role of theories and models, particularly as applied to accounting science – an area often lacking in methodological structure. Diogo Hildebrand and Guilherme Umeda presents an empirical study of the variations in the perceptions of globalization between Brazilian and German university students, and proposes some of the reasons for these differences. Frederico Turolla and Orlando Assunção Fernandes investigate the history of the management of Brazil’s public debt and offer important insights in light of the idea of “original sin.” Finally, Alexandre Cunha, Jorge Sandes and Luis Vivanco look into the question of the volatility, persistence and coincidence of business cycles in South American, East Asia and the United States.

Once again, BBR-Brazilian Business Review presents to the Brazilian and international academic communities a wide range of themes with bearing on business, but unified in terms of concern for furthering scientific research in Brazil.
